QuickBooks Payroll is Intuit's integrated payroll solution that processes payroll directly within QuickBooks, providing seamless accounting synchronization for businesses already using QuickBooks for bookkeeping. The platform automatically calculates federal and state payroll taxes, files tax forms (941, 940, W-2, 1099), and processes payments via direct deposit or check. The Core tier handles basic payroll with next-day direct deposit. Premium adds same-day direct deposit, time tracking via QuickBooks Time (formerly TSheets), and HR support. Elite provides white-glove tax penalty protection, expert setup review, and dedicated customer success. The deep QuickBooks integration means payroll entries post automatically to the general ledger with correct account coding, eliminating manual journal entries. Benefits administration allows setting up and deducting employee health insurance premiums. Workers' compensation insurance with pay-as-you-go premium calculation is available. The employee self-service portal enables employees to access pay stubs, W-2s, and benefits information. Health benefits through Simply Insured are available in select states. QuickBooks Payroll is most competitive for businesses already using QuickBooks Online or Desktop—the integration reduces duplicated data entry significantly.
